PlayStation Now Is the Perfect Way to Play Fallout 76 – for One Huge Reason

AbraxasOctober 9, 2021

PlayStation Now gives new players an incredibly convenient way to experience Fallout 76 for the first time, without taking up disk space.

While Fallout 76 may have had a ton of issues in its initial launch period, Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic MMORPG has gone on to have a pretty solid player base of fans. Between the game’s fascinating lore and the fairly massive scale of its game world, there’s a reason why Fallout 76 has been able to hold the player base that it has. That being said, the scale of the game certainly ends up being a major drawback in a few key areas.

For one, Fallout 76 is known for having an absolutely massive install size. The game takes up a staggering 80 GBs on PC and roughly 70 GBs on PlayStation 4, making it a pretty sizeable storage investment for consistent players. However, with the game recently arriving on PlayStation Now, the best way to enjoy Fallout 76 may actually be through PlayStation’s streaming service. Fallout 76 was one of the new games added in October, giving PlayStation owners a new way to experience the game.

PlayStation Now allows subscribers to play select games across several platforms, including the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. PlayStation Now is a subscription service, though plenty of games come bundled with said subscription in a similar way to Xbox GamePass. One such game coming this month is Fallout 76, bringing fans the best possible way to play the game since it doesn’t actually require the game to be installed.

A game with that big of an install size also has a pretty serious download time. Downloads are one the most tedious parts of a new game, since it can sometimes take hours to simply get the files needed for the game, let alone install them. With Fallout 76 available on PS Now, players can skip the downloads and the installation, jumping right into the West Virginia wasteland on multiple different platforms.

While playing Fallout 76 on PlayStation systems is certainly viable, it’s the fact that PlayStation Now works on PC as well that makes the streaming service a great way to play the game. While existing players will likely have reason to stick with their current system, the game being added to PlayStation Now is a great opportunity for new players. While many Fallout fans may have written this MMORPG off when it was first released, the fact that people can now play it with PS Now for only $59.99 a year makes it a far cheaper way to check the game out.

Of course, the big question when it comes to streaming online games is whether or not the streaming service will be able to handle the game without lag. Modern reviews of the service cite no problems with input delay or latency when it comes to streaming games. While streaming Fallout 76  through a streaming service may require a powerful internet connection, Fallout 76‘s massive size already benefits from fast download speeds even when downloading the game traditionally.

Streaming this game through PlayStation Now not only allows fans to play the game across multiple platforms but also frees up disk space. While the latter isn’t that big of a deal on PC, saving install space on consoles is very much worth checking Fallout 76 on PlayStation Now.  Fallout 76 isn’t a limited release game either, as players will have access to it as long as they keep their PlayStation Now subscription active.
