The anime adaptation of Hiroaki Mizusaki’s manga series Miss Kuroitsu From the Monster Development Department (known in Japan as Kaijin Kaihatsubu no Kuroitsu-san) is scheduled to premiere early next year, and a new trailer gives fans a sneak peek at the upcoming show.
The trailer provides a first look at the anime’s characters and features an upbeat, wacky musical score. Male idol group AXXX1S is performing “Special Force,” the opening theme song for Miss Kuroitsu From the Monster Development Department. The song will be the group’s debut in the anime industry.
The original manga has been serialized online since April 2019 via Flex Comix’s Comic Meteor website and so far, it has produced two volumes worth of content. The story follows the titular Kuroitsu as she works as an assistant researcher in the superhuman research and development department at Agastya, a secret villainous organization set on taking over the world. She spends her days making presentations, running experiments, designing new monsters and dealing with the absurd requests of her employers, all without any vacation time.
Miss Kuroitsu From the Monster Development Department is the first series produced by animation studio Quad; however, the show’s creative team does feature several veterans from the anime industry. Hisashi Saito (The Testament of Sister New Devil BURST, Inuyasha the Movie 4: Fire on the Mystic Island) is directing the anime with Katsuhiko Takayama (Stella Women’s Academy, High School Division Class C3, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story) overseeing the series composition and Kazuya Morimae (Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld Part 2, Tomica Hyper Rescue Drive Head Kidō Kyūkyū Keisatsu) designing the characters.
So far, only two members of the voice cast have been revealed; Kaori Maeda (Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld) is playing Kuroitsu and Satomi Amano (Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle, The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter) is voicing Wolf Bate.
The new show is just one of many series that have already been announced for 2022, including the third season of Ascendance of a Bookworm, Made in Abyss: The Sun Blazes Upon the Golden City, Love After World Domination, Deaimon, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, the second season of Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! and The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody.
Miss Kuroitsu From the Monster Development Department is scheduled to debut on Jan. 8, 2022, on Asahi Broadcasting, TV Asashi and 24 other affiliated channels. Currently, it is unclear if the series will receive an international or North American release.
